If you are missing teeth, dental implants can help to restore the function and appearance of your smile while also offering benefits to your oral health. Dental implants are small metal posts that are surgically placed in the jaw to serve the role of missing tooth roots and provide up to a lifetime of support for permanent restorations. To learn more about how you can benefit from a dental implants procedure at Dr. Greg Phillips' LaPlace, LA-area practice, schedule a personal consultation today.
Am I a Candidate?
Dental implants are designed for patients with missing teeth or those who will be undergoing an extraction. Candidates should be in good overall health, and conditions such as gum disease or tooth decay will need to be treated before your implants procedure. In order to qualify for dental implants surgery, patients must have sufficient jawbone density to support the embedded posts. If you do not qualify, Dr. Daniel Harris, our oral surgeon, can perform a bone graft or sinus lift to improve your candidacy.
Planning Your Procedure
If you are considering dental implants, we offer a free examination and consultation to all new patients (a value of more than $200). During your initial consultation, Dr. Phillips will discuss your goals, review your medical records, and examine your teeth. To evaluate your oral structures and the strength of your jaw, we can take digital panoramic x-rays or send you to an outside office for computerized tomography (CT) scans. Based on this thorough diagnosis, we can create a personalized treatment plan to achieve your unique goals.
Implants Surgery and Abutment Placement
As the first step of your dental implants treatment, we will surgically place titanium BioHorizons® implants in your jaw. After surgery, the posts will be left to heal over the course of four to six months, and we can provide a temporary restoration for you to wear during this time. As the implants heal, they will fuse with the surrounding jaw through a process known as osseointegration, allowing them to provide unparalleled support to restorations. Furthermore, osseointegration also helps to return stimulation to the jaw and halt bone loss that occurs after losing a tooth. Dental implants are the only restorative treatment that offers this benefit.
Once the implants have integrated with the jaw, you will undergo a second procedure to have an abutment placed, which will be used to connect your implants to your restorations. If you have extensive tooth loss or limited jawbone density, we can use the innovative All-on-4® technique to immediately support a complete or partial denture with only four implants.
Restoring Your Implants
Once your tissue has healed around the abutment, you will return to our office to receive your permanent restoration. During a brief appointment, we can secure a beautiful crown, bridge, or denture in place with unmatched strength. Unlike traditional restorations, implant-supported restorations will not move out of position, so you can eat, speak, and smile with complete confidence.
